Kahlan clutched the bouquet of tulips to her chest as Dennee put the finishing touches on her hair.  Her raven locks half pinned up, loose curls cascading down her back over the porcelain skin.  She looked in the mirror and smiled at what she saw; the lacy pale blue dress off her shoulders, accentuating the color of her eyes and the bright blue flowers standing out vividly clutched against her dress.  Kahlan couldn’t help but smile as she thought about Richard seeing her.  She couldn’t wait, she was sure that he would love how she was dressed.  She wanted him to remember how she looked today – forever.  After all it wasn’t everyday she married the love of her life. The thought brought tears to her eyes.

“Ready?”

Kahlan just smiled and nodded, brushing the tears from her eyes as she held the tulips in a death grip against her chest.  It hit her then.  She was on her way to marry the man of her dreams. She thought couldn’t have been happier in that moment but she was proven wrong when she saw him smiling at her, his warm brown eyes holding her captive.  She couldn’t look away, not that she would want to.  She would stare into his eyes for the rest of her life.  There was nothing more she wanted.  In that moment, her life was perfect.

Kahlan watched Richard’s hands in the mirror as he stood behind her, pulling loose the ties that held her dress together.  She felt it loosen, his strong hands attempting to pull away the fabric of her wedding gown.  She wasn’t ready to let him though.  She was worried.  What if he didn’t find her attractive?  What if he thought her breasts were too small or she had too many freckles?  She didn’t know how he could react.  She desperately longed to finally be with him but part of her was scared.  She didn’t know if she was ready to make that leap and leave her innocence behind.

As if sensing her unease, Richard stopped trying to tug the material away, wanting her to bare herself to him when she was ready.  He didn’t want to push her into something she wasn’t ready for.  He kissed along her shoulder and up to her ear, kissing that spot behind it that always made her moan.  “I love you Kahlan.  Now and forever.”

His whispered vow brought a smile to her lips, reassuring her that he did love her and the ceremony they had just gone through wasn’t all for nothing.  He loved her just as she loved him and tonight was her wedding night.  She would forever be changed.  Her innocence left behind.

Kahlan let her wedding gown drop, the material pooling at her feet as she turned in her husband’s arms.  “I love you too Richard.  I love you too.”  She kissed him then, sealing her vow with a kiss.  She knew this night would change her and she couldn’t wait.  She had a life to live with him.  A new chapter to her life that she was starting in that moment – she couldn’t have been happier.

Mother Confessor Kahlan Amnell sometimes must use her authority over the council.

Kahlan sat in her chair overseeing the meeting with the council and it was getting on her nerves.  She hated the way the councilors would bicker back and forth.  She understood that councilors sometimes disagreed but this was pushing it.  These two had been at it for hours with no end in sight.  Her patience was wearing thin.  When the representative from Kelton opened his mouth to retort, she cut him off, her fist slamming down on the desk and making everyone jump.

“Mother Confessor?”

“Enough!  I’ve heard enough! You two have been at it for hours and still no decision has been made.  This is ridiculous!”  She glared at them, her words emphasized by her hand on the desk again.  “If you two can’t figure this out I will decide for you.”

Both representatives bowed their heads slightly, staring at the floor, wilting beneath her gaze.  “Yes Mother Confessor.”

“If you haven’t reached a decision by morning I will be taking things into my own hands.”  With that she left, her skirts billowing in her wake.   It was times like this when she was reminded exactly how much weight her word carried – that she truly did rule the Midlands.  It didn’t take long for an agreement to be made.  No one wanted the Mother Confessor on their bad side and had they not figured it out, she would have been.

Richard and Kahlan spend time with their daughters

Mary and Taralyn ran through the valley, their feet flying through the wildflowers sending hundreds of butterflies into the sky.  The young girls just stopped and gasped at the magnificent sight before them as their parents caught up with them.  “Look!” Mary squealed in delight as she started chasing after the butterflies as fast as her tiny feet would carry her.

“Wait for me!”  Taralyn hollered at her younger sister, taking running off to catch up and try to keep the butterflies from flying away.

Richard and Kahlan just laughed as they watched their children disappear behind a sea of black and orange.  It was a perfect moment, the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Before long Kahlan had joined the girls and he just soaked in the moment.  He had dreamed of something this perfect for a long time and now that he had it he was never letting go.  With that thought he charged into the cloud of butterflies, tickling his wife until she was out of breath and laying on the ground, her form leaving an imprint in the wildflowers.  Richard tickled her again and was joined this time by the girls wanting to have some fun with their mother.  Kahlan was happy to let them.  She would do anything for her family and this precious time together.
