The storm had been raging outside for hours.  Tim was on his way down to get the trace analysis results on mystery substance on the victim.  He was really hoping these results would be the break in the case that they needed.  Walking into the lab he was greeted by loud music and Abby dancing in front of her computer screen.  “Abby?” He almost had to yell.

She spun around when he tapped her on the shoulder, almost tripping over her own platform boots. “Don’t scare me like that, McGee!” she squealed as she swatted his shoulder playfully.

“Sorry.  I didn’t mean to scare you.  You just couldn’t hear me with the music so loud.”

She turned the music down, realizing that he was right about that.  “So what brings you down here?  The trace results?”

“Aw can’t I just come down and see you?”  She just gave him a look, not believing a word of what he had said.  “Alright, Gibbs wants the blood results.  We are hoping this is the break in the case we are looking for.”

Abby smirked, knowing all too well that was why he was there.  “Alright.  Mr. Mass Spec is almost finished with it.  It will be just a few minutes.”

The thunder outside crashed and lightning filled the sky that was when they heard the click coming from the door to the lab.  “What was that, Abby?”

“It sounded like the lock.”

McGee went over to the door and jiggled the handle.  It wouldn’t move and he sighed.  “Looks like we’re locked in.”

Abby immediately went to work at the computers, trying to hack the security codes.  It wasn’t long before Tim was there too, attempting to help her.  After a few minutes he sunk down into the chair.  “It’s hopeless.  We’re stuck here.”

Abby crossed her arms as she turned to face him.  “Nothing is hopeless, McGee.  Where is your optimism?”

“Abby we are locked in the lab.”

Yes, and we will get out. It might take some time but it will happen.  So what do you want to do?  Rock, paper, scissors?  Hangman?  We need to do something to pass the time and we can’t work on the case.  There isn’t anything to do until Mr. Mass Spec finished his work.”

“Okay fine.  Hangman.  You can pick the word.”

“Alright.”  She grabbed a pen and paper from her desk and started making little dashes on the paper.  “Okay.  Twelve letters.”

McGee looked over her shoulder at the blank spots on the paper, thinking over what letter would be in it.  “R?”

“Nope.”  She said with a smirk as she marked it down and drew a head on the hangman.

Tim sighed then, he knew beating Abby at hangman was not something easily accomplished but he had hoped he could do it this time.  “Do you think this night could get any worse?”

Just as he said it the power went out, plunging the lab into darkness.  Abby just shook her head and laughed, while McGee groaned.  “I didn’t think this could get worse but it just did.”

Abby started digging through her drawers before finally finding what she was looking for.  With a snap there was glowing green light illuminating her hands. “Glow sticks.”  She said as she handed him one.  “Don’t worry; we’ll get out of here soon.”

“Sure we will.”

THREE HOURS LATER

“Rock, paper, scissors, shoot.”

“Ha-ha paper beats rock. Better luck next time, McGee.”

He just shook his head and smiled.  “How long do you think we will be in here?”

“I don’t know.”  She said with a shrug.  “I would think Gibbs would be looking for us by now.”

That’s when they heard the door click open. “I have been looking for you.”

“Gibbs!”  Abby squealed as she jumped up and hugged him.

“It took you long enough, boss.”  He mumbled under his breath.

“Don’t push it, McGee.”

“Sorry.”  He said as the lights flickered back to life.  “Perfect timing.”

“Alright back to work you two.  We have a murder to solve.”

Abby just smiled as she went back to checking on the Mass Spec, hoping the trace would crack the case while knowing in her heart that her baby held the answers they were looking for.
