Summary: Richard thinks it's time for the next step in their relationship, a child.
Author's Notes:  Written for the kissbingo square Other: To wake them up on my card.  Prompted my beckyjanel who wanted more bed and more baby talk so I hope I did it justice.   Not BETA'd so all mistakes are my own.

The morning sun was what woke him, streaming through the sheer curtains, casting its golden light across the bed.  He took a few moments to get used to the brightness, nuzzling his nose in his wife’s hair, gently so as not to wake her.  As he lay there holding her naked form in his arms against his own, he thought about all that they meant to each other and how much their life had changed since that day on the cliff in Heartland.  They had been married not long after sealing the rift of the Underworld, Kahlan reclaiming her place as the Mother Confessor.  The council hadn’t supported their decision to wait to have children and thankfully Zedd had been on their side, reminding them that once they had a child the life that they knew would be over and they should cherish this time together without having to worry about taking care of a baby.  He had spelled Richard, making him next to infertile and told him that he would remove the spell once he and Kahlan were ready to start a family. 

They had been married for nearly two years and Richard was starting to realize that he was ready for them to take the next step in their relationship; he wanted to be a father.  The more he thought about his future daughters running through the halls of the Confessors Palace, little girls with dark hair and bright blue eyes so like their mother, had stolen his heart and they were only a daydream for now.  He wanted that future though, he wanted that with Kahlan.

He let his hand wander to her belly tracing light little circles over it, imagining the time when their daughter would be growing in her womb. He couldn’t wait for her to be carrying his child.  After a while he propped himself up on his elbow watching her for a moment then he kissed her, soft and chaste.  She was still unconscious but her body reacted, kissing him back until she realized that the kiss she was experiencing wasn’t a dream, he was really kissing her.  When she realized what was happening she wanted to see how long it would take him to realize she had woken, parting her lips slightly, just enough for him not to notice she was consciously doing it.  He let his tongue slip into the warm cavern of her mouth, massaging her tongue with his, letting them dance the dance of lovers,

He knew what she was doing, he knew she wanted him to think she was asleep but she had never been any good at lying so he just played along, letting her think that she was tricking him.  He finally broke the kiss for breath, resting his forehead against hers while she continued feigning sleep.  His nose brushed against hers, their breath mingling as he spoke softly.  “You never have been any good at deceiving people, Kahlan.”

She let her eyes flutter open at his words, staring up into his chocolate brown orbs.  “Good morning, Richard.”

“Did you sleep well?”

“I always sleep well in your arms.”

He smiled down at her as his hand continued caressing her belly, dreaming of the life that would be in there someday.  “Kahlan, I wanted to ask you something.”

“What is it Richard?  You know you can ask me anything.”

He smiles brightly as he continued staring into her eyes.  “I was thinking that maybe it’s time we think about starting a family.”

She was surprised, she hadn’t been expecting that.  “Are you sure that we are ready to take that step?  I mean a baby.  That’s a whole person who would be completely dependent on us.”

“I know but I have no doubt in my mind that we can do this.  I know you will make a wonderful mother and besides, doesn’t the line of Confessors need to be continued?”

“Umm…well you’re right.”  She had not even thought about it in the longest time.  She had always assumed she would be the one to bring it up someday, when they couldn’t wait.  Yes she wanted to have children with him but the truth was that she was scared.  She had lost her mother at such a young age she didn’t have the experience of growing up, watching her mother to learn how to be a good mother.

He could sense her worry in her change of demeanor.  He didn’t want her to worry and he definitely didn’t want to pressure her into anything.  “Kahlan, it’s okay if you want to wait longer, I’m just thrilled at the idea of being a father, teaching her all those things about the woods that my father taught me.  There isn’t anything I want more than to raise a family with you.”

She couldn’t believe how excited he seemed at the idea of a family.  It had only been wishful thinking on her part for the longest time she never thought that they would be laying there, talking about having a baby.  It was all so surreal.  Back when they had been fighting Rahl and the Keeper she would dream of starting a family with him but once she had him all she wanted was for them to build their life together and worry about children later.  She had hardly given any thought to children since they got married.  However seeing the joy and excitement in his eyes was making her think that maybe he was right.  Maybe it was time they started a family.  She was still afraid of what kind of mother she would be when she didn’t really have an example but she knew that Richard would help her and she could do anything as long as he was there supporting her, helping her get through it.

She smiled up at him just as he was opening his mouth to speak again, probably trying again to convince her that they should have a baby.  Before he could say a word she kissed him, she wanted him to know that he was right; it was time to start a family.  When she finally broke the kiss he rested his forehead against hers.  “So can I take that as a yes?”

“Yes Richard.  I want nothing more than to start a family with you.”  Her smile was brighter than any he had ever seen as she spoke, it illuminated her face beautifully.

He kissed her then.  Passionately at first before reining himself back.  “Well if we are going to start a family I should go see about getting this spell removed, shouldn’t I?”

“Yes you should.”

He kissed her chastely once more before getting out of bed and dressing.  “You should clear your schedule for the day because once I come back; free of this spell I think we should spend the day trying to start our family.”  The grin on his face as he left to go find Zedd was enough to ease any remaining worries she may have had.  It was time.  They were going to be a family, forever.
